In December 2020, a pivotal meeting was held to finalize the syllabus for recruiting Food Safety Officers. The meeting took place at the office of the Chairman of the Committee, Assistant Director of Family Welfare & P.M., Government of Tripura. The key decision was to align the syllabus with the Central Food Safety Officer guidelines. This post outlines the finalized syllabus and selection procedure established during the meeting.
Syllabus for Food Safety Officer Recruitment
Part A: General Aptitude and Computer Literacy
General Aptitude | General Intelligence | General Intelligence: Includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Topics cover analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, arithmetic reasoning, and number series. |
General Awareness | Tests knowledge of current events, history, constitution, sports, and general environmental awareness. | |
English Language | Assesses grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and error spotting. | |
Computer Literacy | MS Office Proficiency | Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and basic commands. |
Social Media Skills | Familiarity with everyday social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. |
Part B: Functional Knowledge
Indian and International Food Laws | Food Safety and Standards Act of India, 2006 | Provisions, definitions, and implementation. Overview of relevant national and international food control systems. |
Subject Matter Knowledge | Food Preservation and Processing | Principles, methods, and technologies in food preservation, packaging, and processing. Understanding of food chemistry, additives, and nutrients. |

Selection Procedure:
1. Written Examination
- Format: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Marks: 85
- Negative Marking: Applied as per Tripura Public Service Commission norms
2. Interview/Personality Test
- Marks: 15
- Selection Ratio: 1:5 based on the merit list from the written exam
3. Final Merit List
- Preparation: Combined marks from written examination and interview
